Paint. Since 1838.
Carl Kreul showed boldness in 1838 when he founded the very first German artists’ paint factory and began to produce oil paints on an industrial scale. At the time, it was boldly revolutionary. Today, 180 years later, we still have a “boldness for color”.
KREUL is the oldest artist's paint factory in Germany. But we are modern in thinking and acting, and we deal with the challenges of the future. Traditional market rules are broken. Digitalisation is shaping the economy. The usage of resources is changing rapidly. And acting sustainably is the core task for us and the future generations. We need to choose other ways to make the world more viable, liveable and fairer. In doing so, it would not help us to think in black and white.
More importantly, it's about showing your colours.
What does that mean in concrete terms?
- From 2020 to 2021, with flexible working times and home office opportunities, we reduced the fuel consumption of company-owned vehicles by 30 %.
- Since 2022, we have been supplied with 100 % green power.
- We use smart planning to schedule the production of large batches and in this way we reduce the energy we need to make our paints.
- Thanks to more efficient utilization of space, we are lowering our heat and power requirement.
- KREUL's production is officially climate-neutral.
- To minimize CO2 emissions, we order over 98 % of the cardboard packaging regionally in a radius of less than 100 km.
- With, for instance, an electric vehicle charging station or a cycle leasing scheme: We give our employees incentives to save CO₂ on their way to work.
- We are not legally obliged to do so, but we have decided to relieve the burden on the community's sewage treatment plant. In this way we purify the wastewater from bottling, production and laboratory before feeding it into the local sewage system in a clear and pH-neutral manner. This means that we invest around €2 in water protection per 100 litres of paint produced.
- No costly mixing processes, smart selection of raw materials, water-based formulatons and minimized intermediate stages: already during the development of our paints and products, we take care to ensure the responsible use of resources. This means that both our production processes and our products are becoming more efficient and environmentally friendly.
