Description

BIOCAST: bio-certified epoxy resin (according to ASTM D6866-22, method B)

Organic - without compromises: This two-component resin is just as easy and safe to use as all other Etter Art resin systems. It contains just as good UV protection as all other Etter Art resin systems (absorbers and HALS, Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers). And it hardens to a hard and glass-like varnish - like all our resin systems ...
In addition, BIOCAST is of course perfectly self-deaerating, so that bubbles are hardly or not at all an issue.

Possible applications of BIOCAST synthetic resin

How do you want to use resin in your art? Already have ideas? BIOCAST is at your side in almost every case, if you like. Resin artworks. Mixed media artworks. Pouring. Fluid Painting. Coating ... Clear or colored. Full-surface or partial. With up to 10 mm layer height in one pour.
BIOCAST is a real resin accomplice for you!

Special features of the BIOCAST resin

The name says it all: BIOCAST is an epoxy resin that contains biomass. We can even tell you exactly how much of it:

- BIOCAST resin contains 33 % biomass.
- The hardener in BIOCAST contains 8% biomass.
- In the mixture, this results in a biomass content of 23 % due to the mixing ratio.

BIOCAST therefore consists of almost a quarter biomass. Quite a lot, isn't it?
What we find important: The biomass comes from the paper industry, where it is a by-product of paper production and processing. It is therefore not an edible product. We would not support that.

The viscosity of BIOCAST is also special. It is so high that you can work very precisely with this synthetic resin. This is great for working on picture edges, for example. You determine what the resin does - at least to a certain extent.

And: with BIOCAST, you can create unique cells on the surface of your artwork. Maybe even cells like you've never seen before.

Application BIOCAST - basic application

Step 1: Mix BIOCAST by volume 1:1 or by weight 1:0.9 by placing both components in a suitable mixing cup.

Step 2: Then mix the resin and hardener. As with other resin systems, stir slowly and carefully, including the base and rim of the mixing cup. This will give you your finished resin mixture after 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 3: If you want to work with colored resin, now is the right time for colorants. One or more, as appropriate for your work.

Step 4: You can work with your clear or colored mixture for 35 to 40 minutes before it becomes too thick and starts to harden.

Step 5: Prepare your painting surface or object for the resin by degreasing and dusting it. You can also do this before mixing. Your painting surface or object should also lie flat so that the resin can spread evenly. BIOCAST is self-leveling, but you can also spread it with a spatula.

Step 6: You can easily remove any bubbles from the surface. To do this, wave a hot air dryer or crème brûlée burner over the resin surface at a distance of around ten centimetres.

Step 7: Then allow the resin to harden. Make sure that dust or other foreign bodies do not adhere to the surface.

Step 8: Enjoy the work of art. And if necessary: clean. This is easy to do with a damp cloth.

Organic? Of course.
With all the advantages of an excellent epoxy resin? Obviously!
And even certified. Take a look at the CIRAM assessment. Our information is as transparent for you as clear resin.

Important information

Although our resins are formulated with the most modern and safest epoxy chemicals available, you should handle all epoxy resins responsibly and proactively ensure your safety:

  • Always wear nitrile gloves
  • Wear a dust mask and even better safety goggles when sanding cured resin
  • It is advisable to work in a well-ventilated area and wear a respirator mask
  • Avoid skin contact (if resin gets on the skin, wash with plenty of soap and water)
  • Do NOT eat, drink or smoke while working
  • If eyes are contaminated, wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately
  • Adding inks/paints/mica powder/glitter to epoxy resin changes its properties and can reduce its non-toxicity. If you use alcohol ink, DO NOT use a flame to remove bubbles as alcohol is flammable

BIOCAST is available in the following container sizes: 500g, 1kg, 2kg, 4kg, 10kg

Application Etter Art PREMIUM SILICONE Shore 22

Step 1: Base and catalyst of PREMIUM SILICONE Shore 22 are mixed 1:1 by weight. Pour the components into a suitable mixing cup.

Step 2: Stir the measured quantity in the mixing cup. Stir slowly and carefully for 2-3 minutes, including the bottom and sides of the mixing cup, until a streak-free and even rosé colour is achieved.

Step 3: Your mixture is ready and you now have 7-8 minutes to work the silicone. It will then become too thick and start to harden.

Step 4: You have prepared your casting mould beforehand, i.e. it has been dusted, degreased and is lying flat on your work surface. Pour the silicone into your mould from a great height in a narrow stream. The high height ensures that the result is as bubble-free as possible.

Step 5: Protect your mould from dust or other foreign objects by working in as dust-free an environment as possible. The curing time is one hour at a room temperature of 23 °C. The silicone can be removed from the mould after 3 hours.
